Cassandra
Detroit based artist, photographer & videographer.
• The Beginning • You can call me Cassie. I'm a full-time artist, specializing in painting, photography, and videography. As I kid was outside in nature and played with bugs (hence the cicada logo) and then grew up into a quirky, laid-back, and patient coffee fueled adult playing pretend. I strive for my personal or explorative artistic projects to be infused with emotion, music, film, and a touch of the spooky or dark. You'll find me displaying my work in Detroit art exhibitions, live painting at festivals, or running around as a sneaky ninja at a wedding. I'm deeply passionate about the creative process and enjoy connecting with like-minded creative individuals. I believe in kindness and supporting each others dreams.
• Artsy Awakening • I’ve always loved creating things with my hands. and could never stick to just one medium—whether it was painting, drawing, crafting jewelry or costumes. Then one day picked up a camera and I dabbled in angsty teen self portraits and music videos. Then my first job was in a photo studio in 2007 at 16 years old. Shortly after transitioned into wedding photography, working with other photographers for some years before branching out on my own. My passion for capturing memories grew even more as I then began attending festivals, collaborating with musicians and other creatives. Shooting photo or video is an exhilarating and rewarding experience, not only do I enjoy the constant learning experiences, but capturing all the love and color life has to offer. My ideal client is someone who appreciates unique creativity and has an eye for artistry.
• All the love! • I've been shooting weddings for about 17 years. For me, it's more than just “capturing your day'“, and it’s about being the least stressful part of your day—like fixing your escaped hair strands or lifting your dress to skip through a field of goose poop. While you're preparing for the best happy day ever, I'll be quietly documenting all of it (while resisting the urge to squeeze your fur babies). One of my favorite aspects of weddings is connecting with you, your friends and families, and experiencing the day alongside you. I find excitement in creating something that authentically reflects who you are, and naturally tells your story. I’ll likely be spending the entire day with you, my goal is to ensure you feel comfortable throughout. I enjoy focusing on shadows, color, and contrast. My style leans more towards the more “alternative” style, rather than traditional. I embrace an editorial/photojournalistic approach and avoid getting caught up in editing trends. Most importantly, I believe in preserving the natural and authentic you, without over-editing your photos. I’d love to hear about your vision too! If you think we’d be a good fit, let’s chat!
